🧲 LinkedIn Lead Magnets: Your Secret Sales Weapon For Attracting & Converting More Clients 😃

Last month I was joined Live on LinkedIn by sales expert Tracy Bedwell from Sales Training International Limited to talk about Lead Magnets and why they’re your secret sales weapon for attracting and converting more clients, as who doesn’t want more sales?

And what an insightful session it was! I had light bulbs going off a plenty!

We looked at what they are, why you need them and how to create them.

If you missed it or have yet to watch the replay here are the highlights.

And if you’re not using them in your business yet . . . you will be after this!!

🧲 First things first – What Actually is a Lead Magnet? 🤔

A lead magnet is something valuable you give away for free (or nearly free) to attract your ideal client and start a relationship.

Often referred to as your free offer or freebie, examples include:

📄 Cheat sheets

🎥 Short videos

📚 Mini ebooks or guides

📊 Infographics

🎤 Webinars

💬 Audio snippets

📰 Newsletters

🎥 Or even a LinkedIn Live, like the one Tracy and I did!

The idea is that they give your dream clients a taster of what it’s like to be working with you.

Your freebie needs to add value, it needs to make your dream client think that if this is what you’re giving away what must it be like to work with you.

💡 Why Are Lead Magnets So Powerful?

Fundamentally . . . .

“Lead magnets make sales easier”

Tracy put it perfectly: “Lead magnets are the difference between making lead generation hard and making it easy.”

Because what they do is:

✔️ Start a conversation (without being salesy)

✔️ Build trust

✔️ Demonstrate your expertise

✔️ Help you stand out from the crowd

✔️ Move people off LinkedIn and into your world (email list, website, phone call)

🛠️ How do you create one? (Even if you’re not “techy”!)

The best lead magnets solve a problem your ideal client actually cares about.

But don’t overthink it. Start with a common question your ideal client asks, and build a short, helpful resource that answers it.

So ask yourself:

❓ What are your ideal clients struggling with right now?

❓ What quick win can I give them?

❓ What would make them think “Ooh, I need more of this”?

Another option is to do a LinkedIn poll! Ask your audience what they’d find most useful.

Here were some great ideas from Tracy about Lead magnets to get you creative juices flowing.

💡PDF checklist – “5 things to fix on your LinkedIn profile today”

💡Short video – “3 ways to get noticed without spending money”

💡Infographic – A simple visual that breaks down a process

💡Mini guide – explaining what they need to know to do something ie. go Live on LinkedIn

💡Email series – A little tip each day for a week (people love a drip feed!)

And if you’ve already got a chunky piece of content, you can turn it into 3-5 bite-sized lead magnets. It’s a great way to stretch your content and your time. 😃

👀 â€œI’ve Got One But No One’s Seeing It 🤔”

Obviously, once you’ve created a lead magnet you have to let people know about it and LinkedIn is a great place to promote it.

On LinkedIn, you can add your lead magnets to . . .

📌 Add it to the Featured section of your LinkedIn profile

🔗 Use the clickable link in your profile header (tip: say “See my free resources” or “Get your free guide”)

📬 Share it in the DMs

📣 Post about it regularly

💌 Include it in your LinkedIn newsletter and email list

📱 Use a QR code at networking events and presentations

🖥️ And of course, add it to your website

And if you’ve got 5–10 lead magnets, you’ve got months of LinkedIn content ready to go 😃

🔁 Lead magnets = marketing AND sales magic

Lead magnets aren’t just freebies. They’re conversation starters. Relationship builders. They’re gentle nudges that say “I know my stuff and I’m here to help.”

So, if you’ve only got one lead magnet (like me), make it your mission to create a second (like me again!).

And if you haven’t got any, now’s the time to get cracking BUT without getting overwhelmed.

To stop overwhelm, Tracy shared a fantastic tip which is to create multiple lead magnets from one idea.

If you’ve written a blog post, you can create a video, infographic, PDF, carousel post and an email newsletter from that one blog post giving you 5 lead magnets from one piece of content.

There’s no need to start from scratch every time. It’s all about repurposing.

So what have you got already that you can reuse in a different way or format?

💬 And Don’t Worry About Giving Stuff Away For Free

As Tracy explained:

“Flat knowledge is everywhere. But people still need your help implementing it. Give freely – and they’ll come back when they’re ready to buy.”

In fact, she says many of her best clients came from people who downloaded a freebie and then came back months later ready to work together.

✅ ACTION TIME! ✅ 3 Things You Can Do Today To Get Started

So finally, to help you move forward here are 3 things you can do today to get started . . .

1️⃣ Audit what you’ve already got: what have you got already you can re-purpose? If you have a blog or a presentation, turn it into a PDF, video, or carousel.

2️⃣ Ask your audience: Run a LinkedIn poll or email survey asking what they’d find useful

3️⃣ Pick one lead magnet to create this week: Just one. Keep it simple and useful.
