Trusted Expert Vs Selfie - What’s Your LinkedIn Profile?

Trusted Expert Vs Selfie – What’s Your LinkedIn Profile?

I have to admit I am bit of a stalker on LinkedIn . . . I’m often checking people’s LinkedIn profiles out – especially those in sales – and typically what I find are profiles that I call ‘selfies.’ Aka all they do is talk about themselves. You know the sort of thing – how good they are at hitting sales targets and how they can close a prospect down to an inch of their lives!

Trusted Expert Vs Selfie - What’s Your LinkedIn Profile?

Really? Do your potential buyers want to know that?

Focus on sales behaviours . . .

The thing about sales behaviours especially in today’s connected age, is that how you act online should be consistent with your offline sales behaviours.

For example would you go to a meeting with your new prospect like this?

No?

My favourite mantra when it comes to LinkedIn is “if you wouldn’t do it face to face don’t do it on LinkedIn!” Look like the type of person your ideal client would want to do business with.

You can use LinkedIn to add value by shifting your focus from ‘Me’ to ‘You’. So that you focus your LinkedIn profile on your target audience to create a trusted expert profile.

This essentially means you have to know:

  • who your target audience is
  • what their challenges and pains are (what keeps them awake at night)
  • how you help
  • what keywords your audience would use to find you online

You can then use LinkedIn to have a conversation, build rapport and demonstrate that you understand them and that you can help them.

Our goal when it comes to social selling should be to use LinkedIn to find and attract all those prospects, that we don’t know are looking but who are online researching their options, and convert them into an opportunity, someone who is ready and eager to have a conversation with us either by phone or face to face.

So what’s your profile? Trusted expert or selfie?
