I Couldn't Believe What LinkedIn Recommended We Write

What The Heck . . . NOOOOooooo! 😲 I Couldn’t Believe What LinkedIn Recommended We Write!?!?

I know writing your LinkedIn profile is not the easiest thing in the world, so when you get prompts from LinkedIn, seemingly looking to help us out, you could be lulled into thinking how wonderful is that!

But No! Please No šŸ™…ā™€ļø

It will keep you invisible!

I was working with a client recently on updating their LinkedIn Profile, and this little message from LinkedIn popped up . . .

LinkedIn Abour AI

LinkedIn was delighted to inform us they’d helped us out by writing the About Section for us!

When we clicked on ā€˜+ Add summary’ – this is what LinkedIn had suggested we add to our profile:

Review your LinkedIn summary

ARGGGHHHH . . . .

ā€œAn enthusiastic, committed and hardworking team player, who is willing to learn new skills in order to increase efficiency . . .ā€

It’s just so boring . . . 🄱🄱🄱

Is there little wonder that so many people’s profiles read like a CV, if that’s what LinkedIn is suggesting we write on our profile?!

Why is writing your LinkedIn Profile like a CV a bad idea?

Your content has to compete with millions of other profiles.

If you don’t stand out, if you don’t hook your dream clients’ interest, if you don’t build rapport . . . then you just won’t get noticed.

The truth is that no one is interested in you . . . only what you can do for them!

Use The ā€œSo What?ā€ Test

When writing your profile, stand back from your content and ask yourself the ā€œSo What?ā€ question.

šŸ“Œ Is what you’re writing relevant to your dream clients?

šŸ“Œ Does it speak to them?

šŸ“Œ Or could your competitors say exactly the same thing?

Does your dream client care if you’re an enthusiastic, committed and hardworking team player? OR do they want an expert, someone who can help them solve their challenges?

So, for every single statement in your profile and your headline, ask yourself the question ā€œSo what?ā€

šŸ”° How does that make me different from the millions of other LinkedIn users?

šŸ”° Will that make my ideal clients or ideal employer say ā€œWOWā€?

šŸ”° Who cares about this – me or my clients?

Don’t make your profile a boring CV! Please don’t listen to LinkedIn and what it thinks you should be saying on your profile.

Instead, use your LinkedIn profile to position why you and what you want your dream clients to think, know and feel about you.
